Peter Abrams likes to refer to himself as a reverse engineer. He has always been intrigued by the world’s detritus, culling recycled materials out of the waste stream and transforming them into objects of desire. Referred to by others as a gifted artist and furniture designer, his choice of raw materials is only one of the things that distinguishes his work. Elegance, comfort, functionality and a sense of humour complete the recipe.
Born in 1961, and raised in New York City by extremely understanding parents, Abrams took a rather circuitous route to discover his metier. After attending secondary school at Bronx High School of Science, he went to Cornell University (twice!), then to Evergreen State College in Washington State, and finally settled at the University of Wisconsin, where he emerged after studying art and architecture.
